Every summer, the inevitable heat and humidity from the Ohio River Valley leaves us feeling like we just hopped out of a pool after simply walking down the street. So, you can either rub a stick of antiperspirant all over your body, OR you could cool off with one of these delicious, chilly treats. We think the choice is pretty obvious…

1. Anything from Streetpops

When you have a culinary genius behind the scenes of these wonderful artisan popsicles, you know the magic is happening. That’s truly the case at Streetpops, where they use fresh, natural ingredients in everything they make. Not only that, but they’re always experimenting with new flavors, and we’ve never been disappointed with how refreshing they are. Just be creative here, because everything sounds good and tastes better.

2. A Sundae – Aglamesis Brothers

A true staple of Cincinnati life, Aglamesis Brothers has been serving up their incredible ice cream for over 100 years, and the proof is in the taste. To last that long, you have to have that special something, and it’s apparent that Aglamesis Brothers has that. Whether you load it up with nuts or just want it with chocolate and whipped cream, there’s no way around the fact that their creamy, delectable ice cream takes this sundae to the next level.

3. Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip Ice Cream – Graeter’s

Alright, alright… we know we’ve been talking about this particular flavor quite a bit lately… but it’s worth a million shout outs. This ice cream is truly unique to our city, and even if it sounds a little interesting to you, you’ll have to believe us when we say that it’s the ideal combination of sweet, fruity, and smooth. It’s everything the doctor ordered on a hot day… and so much more.

4. Be Creative – Sno Castle

Oh, Sno Castle. We’re not sure how many hours we’ve wracked up in the parking lot at Sno Castle; just sitting in our cars in the heat of summer and sharing memories of all the years we’ve been enjoying this sugary classic. With thousands of flavor combination possibilities to choose from, the hardest part about it will be making your choice. Our recommendation? Blue Eagle + Silver Fox. Every time.

5. A Mint Chocolate Chip Shake – UDF

Another true staple of the scene throughout Cincinnati, UDF has been serving up ridiculously delicious ice cream for decades and their variety in ice cream flavors show that. Sure, the Blue Moo Cookie Dough has a special place reserved in our hearts, but the minty, cool refreshing taste of a Mint Chocolate Chip Shake just can’t be beat on a summer day.

6. A Dreamsicle – MadTree

Craft beer lovers, rejoice! Even if you’re not looking to get a sugar high from the other on this list, there’s a beer that’s pretty much a dessert in a glass right here in Cincinnati. MadTree’s Dreamsicle adds a twist on the classic Kolsch style by spinning in vanilla and orange flavors to give your taste buds a throwback to your youth when you were munching on one of the sweet popsicles when you were younger. It’s too beautiful for life.

7. A Root Beer Float – The Root Beer Stand

Can you really ever go wrong with a Root Beer Float? No. The answer is no, you can’t. A true icon of Cincinnati for nearly sixty years, they’ve been making their root beer the same way ever since. Not much has changed, really. That’s great for those balling on a budget. Take a date out for a mug full of root beer and a foot long hot dog and you’ll only be setting yourself back by about $4. As a broke startup, the Root Beer Stand just gets us. Thanks for keeping it real.
