We’re a bunch of serious foodies here at CityNova. We love meaty, juicy mountains of joy that go by the name of “burger.” With that being said, we saw it as our obligation to feature some of our favorite burgers in the city. Some of them are classics, some are a little more adventurous, but they all deserve special treatment. If we could, we’d have one of each every day, but unfortunately our arteries would never forgive us. We’ll save the aspirin companies the work and spread the wealth of burgers to the rest of the city. Behold! Our list of burger beauties…

1. The Trainwreck – Zip’s Cafe

Meaty mother of madness… have you ever seen such a beast? For all you meatatarians out there, this one is for you. In case you need us to spell it out for you, that’s ham, a brat, a juicy burger patty, cheese, and a whole lot of extra rabbit food piled high on a bun for your enjoyment. Make sure to pair it with a delicious local craft while there, because they always have solid choices on tap. Beers and burgers… what else do you need in your life?

2. The All Time Wurst РWurst Bar

Easily the most original burger on this list, this burger surprisingly comes from a place known more for their wurst creations. We’ll let you in on a little preview and tell you that there’s a Cheddar Wurst stuffed into the center of the patty. Not only that, but it’s also topped with onion straws, and a spicy mustard that will take you to another level. Follow it up by putting yourself into a food coma with their ridiculously awesome Fried Twinkies.

3. The Goliath – Mad Mike’s

Deserving of the name of the mythological giant himself, the Goliath Burger is literally a burger tag teamed by two grilled cheese sandwiches on both sides. Yes, you read that right. Buttered up and topped with bacon and a smoky BBQ sauce, there’s a lot of complexity to this thing. Be prepared to make a mess with this one, but it’ll be so, so worth it.

4. The Original Arthur’s – Arthur’s

Not about all the fixins and crazy additions to your burger? That’s cool. Arthur’s is just the place for you. Using locally-sourced meat and giving you all the options your heart desires, you can pretty this little lady up any way that you want. With literally hundreds of possibilities for toppings, this one will please all of the burger lovers out there, even those who just want to eat the burger without the bun. We all have that one friend…

5. The Yo Mama – Arnold’s

This burger’s so good, it makes you want to slap yo mama. Just kidding, but there’s something to be said about a burger that pays homage to the city with a big slab of goetta atop an egg, slices of cheese, and hash brown. What? You thought that burgers were saved for lunch and din din? Nope. Get yourself the best of both words by grabbing this creation. Oh, and don’t forget to check out the history there. It’s the oldest bar in Cincinnati, after all!

6. The Classic Bard – Bard’s Burgers

Known for the unreal, nearly impossible Bardzilla Challenge, Bards Burgers has been recognized for their ridiculous ability to craft a burger that is a true mammoth that doesn’t sacrifice quality. Sure, some may describe it as a dive, but there’s something special about the homestyle feel to the entire place, and these burgers are at the heart of the entire street. But seriously, if you want to challenge yourself, go for the Bardzilla. Many have tried, but none have succeeded on their recent update. You’ve been warned.

Matt Teaford is a meatatarian, craft beer enthusiast, and follower of his spirit animal, which he believes to be a Kodiak Bear. He can often be found hiking in the backwoods of Kentucky or bragging about both his hometown of Cincinnati and expansive knowledge of music. Except Polka. He knows nothing about Polka.

Matt founded CityNova because he wants people to experience life for all that it’s worth. He also thinks that nap time should be offered by all employers. Since he found no such opportunity, he thought a startup might be his best chance.

He’s also a political Independent who vies for true transparency and accountability in government, but that’s neither here nor there…
