We have to admit that we were thrown for a loop when people started telling us that a new burger spot in Cincinnati was slinging out the best burgers they’d ever had. With such fierce competition within the scene, there was no way that a new challenger could pop up from the woodwork and make a statement, and yet here we are. On its own little burger island, far away from the rest of the competitors for the “best burger in Cincinnati,” rests the spot known as Tickle Pickle, and it’s incredible.

If it’s not the interesting artwork and eccentric vibe that the place exudes as soon as you walk in that gets you bought in, it’s going to be the menu. Every burger, side, and drink on the menu has a pun associated with it or its named after a Classic Rock artist or band. They’re not forced, either. One of the most popular burgers (and our personal recommendation) is the Red Hot Chili Pepper Burger. Topped with grilled onions & peppers, Jalapeno Goat Cheese Stuffed Peppers, Ghost Pepper Cheese, and smothered in spicy ketchup and mustard. In case you were wondering: Yes, it’s as spicy as it sounds and surprisingly so. It creeps up after a few seconds and burns so, so good…

Perhaps the food is so delicious, though because there are so many locally-sourced ingredients and products in their arsenal. They proudly display every local resource that they use in their ingredients and we have to say that the local love is wonderful. From local beers to buns and meats, it seems like Cincinnati itself builds the experience from the ground up and we love it.

While the food was excellent, we think our favorite thing about the spot was the ultimate sense of dedication to the artistic influence of the community and how tight-knit the Northside area is. On every wall there was some kind of epic piece of artwork. From a kids wall, appropriately in the theme of Pink Floyd’s “The Wall,” to a wall that’s welcome for any of the artistic visitors to have a go at making their own masterpiece on the venue’s wall. We definitely encourage you to check out every inch of this place when you stop in.

How to do It Right…

When we said this place was going to bring you to burger Nirvana, we sold it short. This place will bring you to foodie Nirvana. If you’re going to do it right, you have to pair your burger with some Mac & Cheese, a Purple Rain cocktail, and some time by the fire on their back patio. Sure, you may have to be rolled out in your blissful food coma, but you’re going to be all about it.

Think any other places should be in the running for having the “best burger in Cincinnati?” Give them a shoutout in the comments below!

Matt Teaford is a meatatarian, craft beer enthusiast, and follower of his spirit animal, which he believes to be a Kodiak Bear. He can often be found hiking in the backwoods of Kentucky or bragging about both his hometown of Cincinnati and expansive knowledge of music. Except Polka. He knows nothing about Polka.

Matt founded CityNova because he wants people to experience life for all that it’s worth. He also thinks that nap time should be offered by all employers. Since he found no such opportunity, he thought a startup might be his best chance.

He’s also a political Independent who vies for true transparency and accountability in government, but that’s neither here nor there…
