When it comes to being original, it’s hard to stand out. A lot of people fail to separate themselves from the musicians they draw their inspirations from, but that’s far from the case with New Beat Fund. Featuring plenty of funky flows and west coast style, they hit the mark with the style but add more to it than the funk can explain. In fact, sometimes it doesn’t sound like a G Punk track at all, and picks up an Indie vibe that makes us inexplicably happy every time we listen to it. Prime example: “It’s Cool.”
But they know they’re different, and doing things on their own terms. A direct quote from them reads: “And what exactly are we doing? We’re letting our music run free, streaking down the beach, nuts hangin’ in the Cali breeze, smokin’ Cali trees. We shimmy shimmy to the sounds of the Timby, some Red Chili, Slim Shady, and one Foxy ass Lady. Reppin’ real music flowin’ from an honest place.” Honestly, these dudes seem like the type that we’d love to chill with at a random house party and hear some of their crazy stories. We know they’ve got some. So, New Beat Fund, if you ever find yourself in Cincinnati, hit us up.
Adding to their originality, their music videos never cease to entertain. Their most recent video release, seen above, is a cover of Rae Sremmurd’s “No Type,” and it’s dope. It doesn’t stop there, either. We have yet to find a song of theirs that we haven’t liked. Their full-length album, “Sponge Fingerz,” is loaded from front to back and is now available on Spotify. A few of our recommendations are “Sikka Takin’ the Hard Way” and “Sunday Funday,” but we’ll leave you to listen to the whole thing. At the end of the day, you need to contribute to the New Beat Fund by hitting up one of their shows to support original music. It’s guaranteed to be a good time.
