Fear not, Forecastle-goers! The time is upon us! It’s time to set sail to the musical magic of one of our favorite festivals, and this year’s lineup is as solid, if not better, than ever before! Offering up an assortment of artists that’s sure to appease even the most cynical, “oh that’s not Indie” music fan in the crowd, they’ve got everything from some of the best Electronic artists in the game to the foot-stompin’ likes of Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats. To put it lightly: Yes, this weekend is going to be dope.

BUT! With such a stacked lineup comes difficult decisions! How will you best utilize your time to fit in all of the music, bourbon, and experiences your heart desires?

Don’t sweat it, friends! You already know your friends at CityNova have you covered. We’re going to make it easy by providing you with a detailed guide of everything you need to know and must do while you’re at Forecastle this weekend. Whether you’re just dropping by for a day or taking in the whole weekend, this is our essential guide to Forecastle 2017…

Alas! The hour is here! You’re ready to get down to some funky beats, but wait… have you even checked the weather?! What about the list of items you can’t bring in?! For starters, don’t bring these things:

Now that you’ve got that covered, what about the weather? As of right now, you may wan’t to bring a poncho if you’re planning on getting there early! Otherwise, the evening is looking like it will be mild and quite a bit cooler than the past couple of days!

Artists You Can’t Miss

1. Giraffage – 3:45 P.M. on the Ocean Stage

If you’re looking for an artist to catch earlier in the day, don’t miss out on the chance to see Giraffage. His synth-filled Electronic riffs are both ambient and exciting at the same time. Sure to fill the space with chill vibes and good times, his tunes are the ideal way to start the day if you’re trying to take it easy but still take in solid music.

2. Griz – 8:45 P.M. on the Ocean Stage

Five hours after Giraffage takes the stage, you can’t miss out on Griz. A far cry from the stylings of Giraffage, his funky beats and that beautiful sax are sure to get you off your feet and swaying to the sound. Okay, okay… so we’re a little partial to the Electronic music. What can we say? The first night of Forecastle is stacked with top-level talent from the genre, so get your fill!

3. Odesza – 10:00 P.M. on the Mast Stage

Like you didn’t see this one coming? Easily one of the most recognizable names in contemporary music, Odesza has been known for their epic remixes of popular songs as well as incredible originals. Chances are, you’ve heard one of their remixes even if you don’t recognize the name and you’ll most certainly be dancing if you’re in the crowd. We’ve seen them a number of times now, and they never fail to impress!

Bonus Round: Bear Grillz Aftershow at Mercury Ballroom

What’s that? You want to keep the party going? You’re in good company, then! Bear Grillz is one of the up-and-coming names in the Electronic scene and we’re positive that you’re going to like what you hear. Featuring a ton of nasty drops and dubs, you’ll be in basshead paradise with this one.

Activity of the Day: The Gonzo Bar

To say that Louisville’s Hunter S. Thompson was a badass would be an understatement. Luckily, Forecastle has done an incredible job in keeping the spirit of his wild journalistic nature alive in the form of a unique bourbon bar experience. On this first night of the festival, drop in and pay your respects by raising a toast to his legacy. Oh, and order it neat, of course.

Stay tuned for our essential guide to Saturday tomorrow! We’ll see you there!
