fireworks at bunbury

Wow.  That’s all we have to say about Friday at Bunbury.

Just kidding.  That’d be a really short post.  We had a blast checking out top-notch entertainment, a wide variety of food vendors, and a palpable sense of Cincinnati spirit and energy.  We would imagine The Killers and Bunbury enjoyed the free addition to their light show in the Cincinnati Reds’ Friday Night fireworks.  It was truly spectacular watching one of our favorite nostalgia bands The Killers perform with a backdrop of beautiful fireworks.  Oh yeah.

As you voyage downtown for Day Two, keep these suggestions in mind.

Eat Fresh at Grand Central Deli

Bunbury really upped their food vendor game this year.  We particularly enjoyed Grand Central Deli.  “But CityNova, I haven’t heard of them before!”  You’re right, that’s because their Pleasant Ridge storefront is opening sometime within the next few weeks.

Order the guac and chips and you won’t regret it.  You’ll get a generous helping of some of the best, freshest guacamole we’ve ever had with just the right amount of lime.

Feeling hungry?  Get one of their sandwiches and you won’t be disappointed with the serving size.  We enjoyed The Queen, a ciabatta roll loaded with chicken, cheese, cilantro lime mayo, and the usual fixings.  Their vegan and vegetarian options are great too.  (Here’s their menu if you were curious!)

Try Blank Slate’s Unique Beers

While we’re certainly a fan of Blue Moon, we were looking for something a bit more original and local in the Craft Beer Village.  And we didn’t have to look further than Blank Slate, who’s rocking it with their “Out & About” Gose and “The Lesser Path” India White Ale.  Both had just the right amount of hops, as the beer was flavorful yet still refreshing on a hot day.

Bonus points: all of the beer vendors this weekend are volunteers from local organizations.  It’s easy to donate to them by adding the amount to your order total and tapping your wristband.  Blank Slate’s booth is staffed by the Team Jacob Foundation, which supports the families of children diagnosed with terminal brain cancer.  We definitely encourage you to support this incredibly worthy cause.

Find Your New Favorite Band

Yeah, yeah, we’re just as excited for Ice Cube and deadmau5 as you are, but make the most of your day at Bunbury by discovering your new favorite band.  We wrote previously about 5 underrated bands you have to check out at Bunbury, and 4 of them hit the stage today.  You’ll have to pick between Automagik and Foxing as they both play 2:30-3, while Grizfolk and Diarrhea Planet are later in the day.  Let us know what you think after you check them out, we bet you’ll be just as impressed as we are.

Go For A Swim

Just kidding, please don’t.  But it looks like these boats were having a great time and enjoying a free show.

Don’t Forget a Rain Jacket

Unfortunately, it’s going to storm throughout the day, but we won’t let it “rain on our parade” (we are so sorry) too badly.  The show must go on!  Just look at it as free A/C…

Who do you plan to see today at Bunbury?  Let us know in the comments and maybe we’ll see you there!

Kyle Gundrum is just like your “one friend” who won’t shut up about Cincinnati or whatever he’s excited about. You know you have that friend. He has been described as a Cincinnati tour guide, but maybe that’s self-proclaimed.

Kyle founded CityNova because he’s passionate about getting people to experience new things.
